College football has not disappointed in its return to competition in 2020. Despite all of the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the slew of canceled seasons across most conferences, there are still plenty of teams making sure quality games are taking place each week.
In Week 3, those games are highlighted by one that really stands out for players and fans looking to see a close contest, and the two teams vying for victory are both ranked in the Associated Press’s top 25 to boot.
No. 17 Miami at No. 18 Louisville
Odds: Louisville -2.5
This game is going to be a quarterback showcase, but don’t expect either team to burn up the scoreboard and run away with a win. Instead, oddsmakers and pundits alike are seeing this one for exactly what it is: an extremely tight game between two well-matched opponents. Which quarterback is going to get the ACC bragging rights with a win this week? D’Eriq King had a nice showing against UAB last week and helped Miami to the win. Louisville’s Micale Cunningham led his team to an impressive display of offensive prowess against Western Kentucky with nearly 350 yards through the air and three scores.
Tulsa at No. 11 Oklahoma State
Odds: Oklahoma State -22.5
This isn’t going to be a pretty game for Tulsa, but it sure should be a fun one for Oklahoma State fans. Mike Gundy may have the most talented team he’s ever coached right now, and they’re going to be lighting up the scoreboard as they try to move up in the AP Poll rankings after this week. Like lots of offense? Then you’re going to want to tune in to watch this one.
No. 19 Louisiana at Georgia State
Odds: Louisiana -17
That AP ranking must feel great for the Ragin’ Cajuns. They earned it though, especially with that underdog victory over Iowa State last week. This week’s opponent likes to take on teams that are favored to beat them, though. In 2019, the Georgia State Panthers upended Tennessee to get their season started. Could they play the upset card against Louisiana? This one should be fun.
South Florida at No. 7 Notre Dame
Odds: Notre Dame -25
Notre Dame didn’t look like a team destined to make a run at their first-ever conference title when they beat Duke last week, 27-13. This week, they are going to need a bit more action from their offensive weapons if they want to cover the point spread for players who are taking them in college football bets this week. The odds do favor the Fighting Irish for a reason though, as Jeff Scott’s South Florida team didn’t showcase any kind of impressive offensive ability — or defensive ability for that matter — in their win over The Citadel last week.
No. 23 Appalachian State at Marshall
Odds: Appalachian State -3
This one is going to be a tight one, and matches up two teams that could win their respective conferences this season. While Appalachian State may be the favorites, it isn’t by much. And that shiny AP ranking can go away in a hurry if the Thundering Herd puts up a solid game on both sides of the ball. With Appalachian State eyeing the Sun Belt championship and Marshall in the discussion of the top teams in Conference USA, this one could really tell a story of what’s to come for each team.
