The 2020 NFL season is upon us and Week 1 is right around the corner. Sports fans across the nation are champing at the bit for a chance to watch some football on television, and sportsbooks are eagerly accepting wagers from bettors.
We’ve taken a look at each matchup on the Week 1 slate, and have given you a brief rundown of what kind of game you can be expecting.
Texans at Chiefs
Point Spread: Texans +10 (-110), Chiefs -10 (-110)
Over/Under: 54.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Texans +375, Chiefs -500
Thursday 9/10, 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC
It’s here. No, really! The NFL season officially begins with the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting a Texans squad that is now without DeAndre Hopkins on offense and featuring a variety of defensive shortcomings. They will be heading into an unfriendly situation against a team that not only has home field advantage (despite the lack of crowd noise Arrowhead Stadium has become known for), but is also a favorite to repeat as NFL champions.
Buccaneers at Saints
Point Spread: Bucs +4 (-110), Saints -4 (-110)
Over/Under: 49.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Bucs +160, Saints -195
Sunday 9/13, 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox
If there’s a must-see game of the week to open the 2020 NFL season, it’s the Bucs at the Saints. Drew Brees and Tom Brady have been in the league together for quite some time, but now that they are NFC South rivals it’s going to get interesting. Despite their age and the possibility they are both looking at their final NFL season, this could potentially become a high-scoring affair as both teams feature plenty of skilled players who can find the end zone.
Eagles at Washington
Point Spread: Eagles -6.5 (-110), Washington +6.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 44.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Eagles -286, Washington +225
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Ron Rivera inherited a mess of a football team when he took the job in Washington, and despite having first-round picks in Dwayne Haskins and Chase Young, the overall ability of the team is still a giant question mark. On the other hand, the Eagles come into the game with an upgraded defense and a healthy Carson Wentz. This game may be a divisional matchup, but it’s not likely going to be as exciting as Washington fans hope it could be.
Chargers at Bengals
Point Spread: Chargers -3.5 (-109), Bengals +3.5 (-112)
Over/Under: 44 (-110)
Moneyline: Chargers -190, Bengals +155
Sunday 9/13, 4:05 p.m. ET, CBS
A long road trip awaits the L.A. Chargers as they head to Cincinnati to take on Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Burrow is going to have to prove he’s the man to lead Cincy to victory, and he has a healthy and talented receiving corps to help him do that, as well as a deep backfield. The Chargers will get to test out a new starting QB in Tyrod Taylor and do feature some studs on defense. The game will come down to if that defense is capable of slowing down an eager and determined Burrow.
Dolphins at Patriots
Point Spread: Dolphins +6.5 (-110), Patriots -6.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 43.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Dolphins +230, Patriots -286
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
Talk about a game with a lot of unanswered questions as the quarterback position. The Dolphins have Ryan Fitzpatrick, who will likely have the start, but have a talented Tua Tagovailoa waiting on the sidelines for a chance to shine. The Patriots, on the other hand, have Cam Newton, who is ready to prove he still belongs in the league, but Jarrett Stidham is eager and ready to go as well. This is a game that is going to feature a wide variety of looks as the coaching staffs try to decipher the puzzle of who is best to lead their teams to the postseason.
Packers at Vikings
Point Spread: Packers +3 (-110), Vikings -3 (-110)
Over/Under: 46 (-110)
Moneyline: Packers +135, Vikings -165
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
The NFC North has been an interesting division over the past couple of years, and in the mix for most of those seasons were the Packers and the Vikings. Last year, both teams made the playoffs only to lose to the 49ers on their way to the Super Bowl. The Packers are still weak at the receiver position despite having one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and the Vikings haven’t improved much on offense either. Both defenses have made enough changes that it will be interesting to see how well either team can put points on the board.
Colts at Jaguars
Point Spread: Colts -7 (-110), Jaguars +7 (-110)
Over/Under: 46 (-110)
Moneyline: Colts -315, Jaguars +245
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
The Colts are eager to show off their passing game now that they have Philip Rivers behind center, but it could be the running game with rookie Jonathan Taylor that is the real jewel of this game. If that weren’t enough, Indy also boasts one of the best defensive fronts in the league. Jacksonville has an offense that hasn’t quite figured out its identity with Gardner Minshew at quarterback, and the defense isn’t as shiny as it used to be either.
Bears at Lions
Point Spread: Bears +1.5 (-110), Lions -1.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 44 (-110)
Moneyline: Bears +112, Lions -136
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Chicago vs. Detroit is such a classic matchup that it feels like it’s a must-watch for any NFL fan. Unfortunately, neither offense looks very inspiring, especially with the quarterback situation for the Bears being an issue. The Lions have an improved running game and offensive line, and Matthew Stafford returns from last season’s injury with his eye on the postseason. The defenses on both teams will have to step up and keep big plays from happening. When these two teams meet up, there’s always potential for big plays and excitement. Hopefully they kick off the 2020 season in style.
Raiders at Panthers
Point Spread: Raiders -1.5 (-110), Panthers +1.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 47 (-110)
Moneyline: Raiders -124, Panthers +104
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
Derek Carr has a few new weapons to throw to, and the Raiders defense has beefed up quite a bit at linebacker. The Panthers are basically a completely new team with many of the former standouts having departed. The Raiders, who will be relying on some classic football to bring them wins again this season, venture into the unknown against a talented Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback for Carolina. This game should be a tight one, but there could be plenty of scoring for fans to feast on.
Jets at Bills
Point Spread: Jets +6.5 (-110), Bills -6.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 40.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Jets +225, Bills -278
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
It’s been awhile since the Bills looked like they were going to be a truly dangerous team, but 2020 has already been weird and there’s no reason why Buffalo can’t suddenly feature some truly impressive talent. The Jets, on the other hand, seem to be lost in their rebuilding efforts and haven’t seen much life from the players once expected to take the division by storm. If the Bills can live up to the talent they’ve acquired, then this game could be one heck of a good show for the fans in Buffalo.
Browns at Ravens
Point Spread: Browns +8 (-110), Ravens -8 (-110)
Over/Under: 48.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Browns +290, Ravens -375
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
This is a classic matchup between two teams that just don’t seem to like one another. The Ravens keep getting stronger, adding to their backfield and improving their receiver corps to make Lamar Jackson even more dangerous. The Browns are expected to be a lot more capable than in seasons past, and they’re hoping to find a way to the playoffs under new coach Kevin Stefanski. Because there’s so much talent on both sides of the football for both teams, this one should get exciting.
Seahawks at Falcons
Point Spread: Seahawks -1 (-110), Falcons +1 (-110)
Over/Under: 48.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Seahawks -129, Falcons +106
Sunday 9/13, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
The Seahawks have a long trip across the country, but they are bringing plenty of weapons along with them. Russell Wilson is quietly one of the best players in the league, and the improved running game should make him even more of a danger to the Falcons’ defense. Atlanta, on the other hand, will have the ability to make big plays, but they might not have enough of a defense for it to matter. It should be interesting to see what Matt Ryan can do in an offense that is relying extremely heavily on their passing game.
Cardinals at 49ers
Point Spread: Cardinals +7 (-110), 49ers -7 (-110)
Over/Under: 46.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Cardinals +245, 49ers -315
Sunday 9/13, 4:25 p.m. ET, Fox
The 49ers play host to one of the more interesting rebuilding teams in the league this year. Arizona has plenty of talent and added to their offensive arsenal this offseason. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury is young and aggressive, and he’s well aware of how capably his team has to play in order to upset the 49ers. San Francisco is coming off a second-place finish in the NFL, and they may not have the healthiest players nor a defense as stout as it was last season. But this is a team that can still pick up wins in just about any matchup, so expect this to be one of the more dazzling displays of playmaking in Week 1.
Cowboys at Rams
Point Spread: Cowboys -2.5 (-110), Rams +2.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 50.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Cowboys -134, Rams +110
Sunday 9/13, Sunday 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC
Dak Prescott may not have the long-term contract he was hoping for, but he’s got some new talent to work with and a new head coach to help lead the way when the Cowboys take to the road and visit Southern California to start the season. The Rams can’t seem to keep talent on the roster and have less to work with this season than they did last year. That being said, L.A. has some serious playmakers on defense who could keep them in most of their games this season if they stay healthy. They’ll get to test that out against a Cowboys team that is very dangerous on paper.
Steelers at Giants
Point Spread: Steelers -3.5 (-110), Giants +3.5 (-110)
Over/Under: 47.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Steelers -200, Giants +163
Monday 9/14, 7:15 p.m. ET, ESPN
It isn’t easy to start the season on a Monday night, and it definitely doesn’t help when you have to open up by hosting a Steelers team that should have an elite defense this season. The Giants won’t back down from the challenge, but they’ll have to be firing on all cylinders in order to try to get the best of Pittsburgh’s talented defensive corps. If that weren’t tough enough, the Steelers come in with a healthy Ben Roethlisberger and some eager receivers looking to score early and often.
Titans at Broncos
Point Spread: Titans +1.5 (-114), Broncos -1.5 (-107)
Over/Under: 42.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Titans +105, Broncos -127
Monday 9/14, 10:10 p.m. ET, ESPN
If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. That old adage is likely the reason the Titans didn’t make many changes in the offseason, choosing to come into 2020 with a run-heavy offense that features the talented Derrick Henry. If the defense gets a little too comfortable in the box, Tennessee isn’t afraid to make a play downfield thanks to the resurgence of Ryan Tannehill at QB. The Broncos, however, are no slouches and will continue to focus on their impressive defense while looking to a revamped offense to put up plenty of points. This one could get interesting, and should be a great way to end the opening week of the NFL season.
